Dr. Olivier Tshiani is a Medical Doctor with a special interest in infectious diseases. He has over 15 years of experience in public health in resource-limited settings and over 10 years of research work in collaboration with international research teams focused on influenza, HIV, Ebola hemorrhagic fever, and MPOX. He has gained considerable experience and expertise participating in several outbreak investigations, including in the DRC. He spent more than 10 years participating in the NIH intramural program under the guidance of world-renowned scientists. During this unprecedented and largest Ebola outbreak in West Africa, his groundbreaking work helped accelerate the clinical development process of the Chimp-Adenovirus 3 (ChAd3) vaccine, one of the first Ebola vaccines to enter clinical trials, and immunologically evaluate the ChAd3 and other fast-track vaccine candidates such as recombinant Ebola vesicular stomatis vaccine (rVSV) for dose determination. He worked with Professor Jean-Jacques Muyembe, a pioneer in Ebola research and co-inventor of the Ebanga monoclonal antibody, for over a decade. As part of the PALM partnership, he contributed substantially as a co-investigator to the implementation, execution and completion of an NIH-supported efficacy study of investigational Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) countermeasures in a clinical trial conducted during the second largest Ebola outbreak in North Kivu/DRC. He is currently contributing as a protocol co-chair to one of the largest mpox trials evaluating the efficacy of Tecovirimat, aka PALM007.
