Dr. O’Callaghan is a pediatric infectious diseases physician, and currently serves as a medical epidemiologist and subject matter expert in congenital syphilis and other pediatric STI case-based surveillance in the Division of STD Prevention at the CDC. Prior to the CDC, he was an attending physician at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, specializing in pediatric infectious diseases with a focus on infections of the newborn, and was an associate medical director for infection prevention & control. Dr. O’Callaghan completed a residency in Internal Medicine & Pediatrics at Baystate Medical Center in Massachusetts, where he was chief resident in pediatrics, and a fellowship in pediatric infectious diseases at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
