Stanford
Redwood City, CA, United States
Dave was born and raised in Southeast Michigan before attending Michigan State University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology. There, he completed a Senior Honors Thesis studying the RNA binding characteristics of KRIPP11, a mitochondrial protein found in Trypanosoma brucei, sparking an early interest in Infectious Diseases. He then attended the Tufts School of Medicine in Boston for medical and graduate school, earning his MD, in addition to a detour into the Neuroscience department where he earned his PhD in the lab of Dr. Larry Feig, studying sperm miRNAs as novel mediators of the transgenerational inheritance of stress. In the later years of his training at Tufts, Dave started to develop his passion for medical education, mentoring junior medical students and serving as a student facilitator in various courses. Dave then jumped to the West Coast to follow his now wife, Laura, continuing his training in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. There, he joined the Medical Education pathway, earning awards from the medical students for teaching and mentorship, while gaining valuable experience in qualitative research. His passion for teaching and love for the rigors of clinical medicine brought him back full circle to the world of ID, and he is now a first year Fellow in Infectious Diseases in the Clinician Educator track at Stanford University. There, he intends to continue to delve into the world of Medical Education and explore its role in Antimicrobial Stewardship.
