Dr. Foong is an attending physician in the Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine at Tufts Medical Center and an Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine. He attends the inpatient general Infectious Disease consultation service and inpatient Infectious Diseases ward service, and teaches fellows, residents, and students. He is also a consultant for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health on antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention in long-term care facilities.
Dr. Foong received his medical degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia School of Medical Sciences, completed his Internal Medicine residency at Crozer Chester Medical Center, and his Infectious Diseases fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine. Before joining Tufts, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and chaired the Antimicrobial Stewardship program for OSF HealthCare from 2019 to 2022.
Specializing in antimicrobial stewardship, diagnostic stewardship, infection prevention, and clinical research, Dr. Foong was awarded the 2023-24 LEAP Fellowship by IDSA. His research focuses on antibiotic allergy prevalence and its impact on prescribing practices among long-term care residents, aiming to improve antibiotic use and patient outcomes.
