Deepthiman (Deepu) Gowda, MD, MPH, MS is the Assistant Dean for Medical Education and lead for Narrative Medicine at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM). Dr. Gowda serves on the Board of Directors for Columbia University Program in Narrative Medicine. Dr. Gowda has worked to implement narrative medicine across all 4 years of the curriculum at the new KPSOM, which graduated its first class in 2024. Prior to joining KPSOM in 2019, Dr. Gowda served on faculty at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons for 17 years where he co-directed the preclerkship clinical skills course. He is a Macy Faculty Scholar, former national chair of NBME Step 2CS, and former member of the New York City Board of Health for 8 years. Dr. Gowda currently serves as President of Directors of Clinical Skills Education.
Dr. Gowda received a BA in Anthropology and Biology with highest honors on a Morehead-Cain Scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MD at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a Master’s in Public Health from Harvard University, and a Master’s of Science in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University. He completed internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center.
