Dr. Igor Melnychuk is board-certified in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine and CMET-certified in Wound Care. He is also certified in HBOT and lymphedema therapy. Dr. Melnychuk is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the VCOM-Carolinas osteopathic medical school and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of North Carolina. He has been teaching Wound Care to medical students for over half a decade. Dr. Melnychuk pioneered two novel debridement techniques, introduced a novel concept of wound remodeling, and established approaches to treatment of wounds with unfavorable edges and post-amputation wounds. He also modified a skin micrografting technique and adopted it for usage in the wound care clinic. Over a dozen of his articles on various Wound Care topics have been published in various national and international medical journals.
Dr. Melnychuk is on the peer-review panel of the international wound care journal "Advances in Skin & Wound Care.” His work has been presented at the Symposiums of Advanced Wound Care, the European Wound Management Association, and the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel. In 2022, the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care selected him to receive the national "Outstanding Contributions to Wound Care Award." He is also a co-chair of the "Young Wound Clinician Task Force" at the US leading wound care organization and a big advocate of Wound Care introduction to the curriculum of ID fellowships. Dr. Melnychuk is one of the authors of the upcoming “National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel Guidelines” and a wound care manual, "The Art of Wound Care. Principles & Practical Applications."
