Dr. Helene M. Calvet received her MD from the UCLA School of Medicine, completed residency in Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas, and fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA. She maintains board-certification in both disciplines. Initially working in academic medicine, after a few years she moved to public health, where she has worked for almost 24 years with special emphasis on STIs and TB. In 2018, she cut back to part-time work in order to study and volunteer in Global Health, and received certification in Tropical Medicine. In March 2020, she returned to public health full time to assist with COVID response, and subsequently transitioned back to work in TB Control in 2022. Currently, she is the Medical Director of Pulmonary Disease Services (TB Control) at the Orange County Health Care Agency in Santa Ana, CA. She has served on two CDC Expert Panels, and taught STI management to health care providers throughout Region IX and internationally.
