Dr. Hota is an Associate Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Toronto and the Division Head for Infectious Diseases at the University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health in Toronto, Canada. She completed her medical training and a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Toronto. After joining the UHN Infection Prevention and Control Department in 2007 she became the Medical Director in 2016. Her academic interests include management of Clostridioides difficile infection, fecal microbiota transplantation, and emergency preparedness for infectious diseases. She is Vice Chair (SHEA) on the IDWeek Program Planning Committee, President Elect for the Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases-Canada (AMMI), was previously VIce-Chair of the Ontario Provincial Infectious Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC-IPC), co-Chair of the Canadian Nosocomial Infection Surveillance Program’s Clostridioides difficile and Point Prevalence working groups and member of several Public Health Agency of Canada committees. Previously, she was a member of the SHEA Guidelines Committee and Outbreak Response Training Program Advisory Panel. She played pivotal roles in regional pandemic response and recovery. Dr. Hota has been frequently featured on Canadian media as an expert on health systems response to emerging infectious diseases and pandemics.
