Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Medical Research Council Centre for Medical Mycology

I am a Mexican MD, specialised in internal medicine and infectious diseases. My area of expertise for 12 years now is on fungal infections. My medical studies and training were at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico before moving to the UK to study a MRes in Medical Mycology and Fungal Immunology and a PhD in Molecular Medical Mycology at the University of Aberdeen, in Scotland. After my PhD graduation in 2020, my partner and I founded a continuous medical education online platform called The Mycoloyeast aiming to improve the diagnostic skills on fungal infections. During my first postdoctoral experience, I was responsible for the setup of the first CL3/BSL SARS-CoV-2 laboratory in the Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Aberdeen and for the developing of ex-vivo models to study fungal and viral infections. Currently, I am a postdoctoral research fellow in the MRC centre for medical mycology at the University of Exeter in England. My research interests are the study of 1) host-pathogen and cross-pathogen interactions during fungal coinfections including fungal-viral and fungal-bacterial infections, 2) Effects of natural genetic variation in human antimicrobial peptides on fungal infections, 3) Epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance in fungal infections, 4) Improving diagnostic capacities in LMIC. You can find my publications in my ORCID https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4012-1045
