Derek Bays is an Assistant Proffessor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Infectious Disease at University of California, Davis. He is a "lifer" having completed his internal medicine residency, chief medical resident year, and infectious diseases fellowship at UC Davis before joining the faculty in 2022. He is a budding physician scientist and originally entered the research world through investigating coccidioidomycosis. During his infectious diseases fellowship, he became interested in the interactions of the microbiota and Candida albicans, which has carried into his own research program.
