Candice Romero, MD, MS(c), is a Medical Research Scientist, working as contractor in the Clinical Trial Unit, U.S. Naval Medical Research Unit SOUTH (NAMRU-SOUTH), in Lima, Perú. She has completed masters’ level training in Epidemiology. She has experience in the epidemiology of infectious diseases, such as Norovirus, Influenza, and other respiratory viruses. She has worked extensively in community-based research across Perú. She has provided valuable support and efforts conducting a population-based study in four different sites in the country. This important work was performed as part of a collaboration between NAMRU SOUTH and US CDC. As results of her participation, she has improved her skills in implementing and supervising research studies in infectious disease. Dr. Romero also led a clinical protocol to study Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) among hospitalized risk groups for influenza. Currently she is focus on the implementation of clinical trials in hospital settings and conducting a cohort for influenza surveillance among health care personnel in 5 hospitals in Lima, Perú.
