Dr. Sydney Stanley is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Boston Children's Hospital (BCH) and Harvard Medical School (HMS). She is also a member of the Computational Health Informatics Program of BCH and HMS. Dr. Stanley is passionate about mitigating infectious disease global health disparities by leveraging bacterial population genomics and genetics to improve the efficacy of vaccines, antibiotics, and diagnostics. Dr. Stanley completed her doctorate at the Harvard School of Public Health in the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases; under the mentorship of Dr. Sarah Fortune, she sought to define Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) genetic and phenotypic markers that are predictive of tuberculosis treatment failure and cavitary disease. In addition, Dr. Stanley interrogated the mechanisms underlying the evolution of Mtb pathogenesis. Currently, as a fellow in Dr. Richard Malley's lab, she is seeking to define Streptococcus pneumoniae genomic and genetic determinants associated with vaccine escape and the development of invasive disease.
