Linda McKinley, RN, PhD, MPH, CIC, FAPIC has practiced nursing for 39-years, including service in the Army Nurse Corps. She is currently a research health scientist at the VA Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, but has worked as an Infection Preventionist (IP) with the VA for over three decades. She’s held numerous APIC chapter leadership positions including chapter president in Wisconsin. She is a member of the Wisconsin Coalition for HAI Prevention in Long Term Care that provides educational opportunities to IPs across the state. Linda has previously served the national APIC Board of Directors and as APIC Secretary. She is recipient of an APIC Leadership Award and the SHEA Advanced Practice IP award. Within the VA she has served on national advisory groups, chaired the inaugural infection prevention and control field advisory board and co-chaired the infection control subject matter expert workgroup for the VA electronic medical record modernization project. In 2022, she received the VA Excellence in Infection Prevention and Control Lifetime Achievement Award. Linda has been a speaker at local, state, national and international educational events and has mentored graduate students interested in healthcare epidemiology. She has presented numerous abstracts at educational conferences resulting in publications in peer-reviewed journals. She serves on the AJIC editorial board and is an Associate Section Editor of the APIC Text and is a scientific reviewer for several journals. Linda leads infection control research and has served as Principal Investigator on VA funded research studies. Linda has a demonstrated record of experience and productive contributions to the field of infection control to enhance patient and Veteran outcomes.
