Dr. Matthew Jacob, MD, is currently a second-year Infectious Disease Fellow at Stony Brook University Hospital. Inspired by his experience during residency amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Jacob developed a strong commitment to the field of infectious diseases. This passion led him to pursue his fellowship in New York, where he aimed to gain exposure to complex cases and highly resistant organisms.
During his fellowship, Dr. Jacob has been actively involved in research, with a focus on antibiotic stewardship and diagnostic testing for Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) infections. During ID Week 2024 he will be talking about research he conducted in the VA Northport regarding antibiotic stewardship practices, and in SBUH research on Investigating PCR cycle threshold’s Utility in diagnosing and treating clostridioides difficile Infections.
Being in Long Island, he frequently encounters region-specific infections like tick-borne diseases. This exposure led him to publish a case report on the rare occurrence of blood transfusion-related anaplasmosis. More recently, he has been investigating Quantiferon results at SBUH to explore correlations between baseline characteristics and test outcomes.
