Marcus R. Pereira, MD, MPH, FAST, is an associate professor of medicine at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr Pereira is also the medical director of the Transplant Infectious Diseases Program at Columbia, where he oversees the care and the development of infection prophylaxis and treatment protocols for immunocompromised patients, and the director of Clinical Services in the Division of Infectious Diseases. He received his medical degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. He then completed both his residency and fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. Dr Pereira is board certified in internal medicine and infectious disease.
Dr Pereira’s research areas of interest include multi-drug resistant infections, resistant CMV infections, and more recently COVID-19 outcomes in solid organ transplant recipients. He is an active member of AST and IDCOP, including co-authorship in the AST IDCOP Guidelines, 4th edition, and is currently serving as a member-at-large of the ID COP Executive Committee. He is also a member of the AST COVID-19 Task Force and an associate editor for the American Journal of Transplantation.
