My experience as a research technician spans 23 years and involves a variety of molecular, cellular and microbial technics. The first 12 years my research was in the area of host pathogen interactions of enteric pathogens. The remaining 11 years have been in the Parkins lab. Where my research focus started on strain typing bacteria in the CF airway. I maintain an extensive biobank with CF sputum isolates from many species and have typed many using PFGE, MLST and WGS. Allowing assessment of infection transmission and possible epidemic strains. Currently I am working to gaining NGS experience on multiple platforms and bioinformatics. Some other projects that I am and have worked on are: (1) SARS-CoV-2 Pan Alberta wastewater monitoring project. (2) CMV’s impact on CF patient disease progression and (3) Hepatitis E detection in porcine derived pancreatic enzyme replacement thearpy. For the Pan Alberta wastewater monitoring project I was involved in implementation and set up for the Parkins lab as well as research and development. Currently I am researching bacterial pathogens and other pathogen targets from wastewater from a range of sites across Albert.
