Neysha Martinez-Orengo is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institutes of Health, where she is working on the validation of candidate imaging biomarkers of inflammation and infectious diseases (fungal and viral) to better understand the pathophysiology of disease and improve non-invasive diagnostic techniques. She earned her B.S. in General Science with minors in Biology and in Psychology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, followed by a two-year postbaccalaureate training at the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases. She holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the Ponce Health Sciences University, Puerto Rico. Using in vitro and in vivo models, she sought to understand the inflammatory responses, TGFβ signaling activation, and synaptic injury observed in HIV-1 Nef neuropathogenesis. She is also a STEAM education and workforce advocate.
