Dr. Margie Morgan is the medical director of microbiology and a professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she has worked for 40 years. She obtained her Ph.D in microbiology and immunology at the University of Oklahoma and fellowship in clinical microbiology at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Morgan is board certified through the American Board of Medical Microbiology. She is directly involved in the development and implementation of culture and molecular test methods for the clinical mirobiology laboratory.. She is a founding member of the Cedars-Sinai antimicrobial stewardship committee and is involved in hospital epidemiology surveillance operations and investigations. She has over 100 abstracts and publications with major research interests in improving antimicrobial stewardship and advancements in diagnostic technologies. She played a major role in both the development and ongoing operations of the Covid testing laboratory and increasing the diagnostic testing capabilities in the Special Pathogens unit laboratory. Dr. Morgan has an active role in teaching pathology residents and infectious disease fellows and has been awarded three Golden Apple Awards for outstanding teaching in the pathology residency program. She has developed pathology review courses and an educational website to assist (Microbes with Dr. Morgan) She has served on many committees over the years for the American Society for Microbiology, she is past president of the Southern California Chapter of ASM and is currently a member of the Expert Committee for the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute.
