Caitlin Contag, MD is a critical care fellow at Stanford University. After graduating from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco in 2018, she completed an Internal Medicine/Global Health residency and Infectious Diseases fellowship at Stanford in 2021 and 2023, respectively. Dr. Contag has a keen interest in high-impact and emerging pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, and critical care in resource-limited settings. Since 2022, she has led several projects investigating the impact of mpox, and partners with community organizations to conduct venue-based epidemiology at queer-focused sex-positive events. Additionally, she is co-principal investigator on a study of doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis in people who have undergone gender-affirming vaginoplasty, which is funded by Stanford’s Center for Innovation in Global Health. Dr. Contag is a passionate teacher and mentor and has built a research team that includes medical students and post-doctoral scholars with diverse interests ranging from internal medical to plastic surgery.
