James B. Wood, MD, MSCI, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine in the Ryan White Center for Pediatric Infectious Diseases and Global Health and Pediatric & Adolescent Clinical Effectiveness Research divisions. He completed his medical school training at Georgetown University School of Medicine and Pediatrics residency at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases and a Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
He is the medical director for clinical services and associated program director for the Pediatric Infectious Diseases fellowship at Riley Hospital for Children.
Dr. Wood's research is focused on the immune response, epidemiology and clinical care of children with Staphylococcus aureus infections, with a particular interest in musculoskeletal infections. His work involves identifying and understanding variables (both microbiologic and clinical) associated with severe disease and poor outcomes in children with musculoskeletal infections. His goal is to improve clinical care of patients with musculoskeletal infections, as well as the development and implementation of novel diagnostic, therapeutic and vaccine targets.
