Otto Helve, MD, PhD, is currently serving as the Director of the Department of Public Health at the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare. Before this role, Helve was the head of the Infectious Diseases Control and Vaccinations Unit at the same institute. He is a specialist in pediatrics, paediatric infectious diseases and in public health medicine. He has been actively involved in managing Finland's response to various public health challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
Helve has an extensive research background, mainly focusing on newborn health. He holds a PI position at the University of Helsinki and a leads a laboratory at the Pediatric Research Centre, Helsinki University Hospital.
