• Spread of HRE in the community
Introduction
Community-associated HRE (CA-HRE) is a type of infection that is not acquired in a hospital setting. It is thought to be spread through contact with people colonized with CRE, a type of bacteria resistant to many antibiotics. The proportion of CA-HRE of the total population with HRE is yet to be determined.
This project will determine how many patients with HRE acquired their HRE in a community setting. In addition to determining which patients come in with CA-HRE, we will also evaluate the spread of HRE in the community. We will use a variety of methods to collect data, including:
• Surveys of patients with HRE
• Interviews with healthcare providers
• Environmental sampling
As for the results, this project's results will help us better understand the epidemiology of CA-HRE and the mechanisms of its spread in the community. This information will be used to develop strategies to prevent the spread of CA-HRE and to improve the treatment of patients with this infection. This project is important because it will help us to better understand CA-HRE and to develop strategies to prevent its spread. This information will be valuable to healthcare providers, public health officials, and patients.
