I am a trainig clinician scientest who is focused on the interaction between commensal members of the human
microbiome and the development of multiple drug resistant infections. My clinical expertise is broad
including inpatient and outpatient management of fever and infectious diseases in both adult and pediatric
populations. My clinical focuses are infection in the immunocompromised host and the use live biological
therapies for the treatment and prevention of drug resistant infections such as Clostridioids difficile
infection, vancomycin resistant Enterococcus, and carbapenem resistant Enterobacterales. Early in the
COVID-19 pandemic I studied the risks and characteristics of bacterial infection in COVID-19 patients.
My currently active areas of research are in correlating stool microbiome and metabolome profiles with
clinical outcomes in patients with solid organ transplantation and critical illness. Additionally I am working
on the development of a live biotherapeutic consortium of enteric organisms aimed at preventing drug
resistant infections by restoring bile acid and short chain fatty acid metabolic pathways.
