US Medical Director
ViiV Healthcare
Mark Lewandowski brings to ViiV Healthcare a richly diverse background, having
excelled as an accomplished professional in pharmacy, medical information,
polymer chemistry, and materials engineering. His interest and expertise in HIV are
conveyed in his deep commitment to delivering relevant and accurate information
to healthcare professionals for informed decision-making. Through his work, Mark wants to make a difference in
the world of HIV by supporting optimal care for all who are living with HIV.
Current Role: Mark joined ViiV in June 2019 as a Medical Science Liaison, where his responsibilities include
developing relationships with external experts to better understand their scientific needs and to appropriately
provide them with information related to HIV and ViiV products. In addition, he responds to unsolicited requests
for information, participates in advisory board meetings with healthcare professionals to understand their
unmet needs, and supports ViiV clinical development activities. Mark also provides commercial support as an
educational program speaker and scientific trainer for the ViiV sales team.
Experience: Prior to joining ViiV, Mark worked in HIV Medical Information at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in Research
Triangle Park, North Carolina for three years, where he developed expertise in ViiV products and gained
comprehensive knowledge to address a wide range of HIV topics and questions. A highlight was leading the
Medical Information launch for one of ViiV’s two-drug HIV regimens, which included participation with a matrix
team in the creation of promotional materials, product dossier, medical information responses, and draft
labeling. In his GSK role, Mark also provided data dissemination of professional congress materials, led internal
content database efforts, and updated medical information based on data evaluation and publications. His
exemplary work on multiple fronts led to his recognition internally at GSK for his solution-oriented approach,
high level of scientific scrutiny and quality control, and on-time delivery. Mark also worked in antivirals at GSK
at an earlier timepoint during a pharmacy student rotation in 2015, when he developed training materials for
hepatitis C direct-acting antivirals and HIV/hepatitis C drug interactions. He followed this with another student
rotation at PPD in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, focusing on strategic feasibility analyses for oncology
clinical trials. After pharmacy graduation, Mark returned to PPD in 2015 as an employee, providing medical
information to healthcare providers as a Consultant Pharmacist in inflammation and bone therapies.
Before pursuing a career in the pharmaceutical industry, Mark established himself as a successful product
development chemist for more than 13 years at Intertape Polymer Group in Marysville, Michigan, where he
advanced progressively in a variety of positions including Senior Chemist and Senior Technical Advisor. His
roles gave him opportunity to develop extensive and transferrable expertise in multiple areas, including matrix
management and cross-functional teams, project management, team leadership, product development, public
speaking and presentations, and patent research and writing. Mark holds several patents related to his work.
Education: Mark earned his PharmD from Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions
in Omaha, Nebraska in 2015. He also holds a MS in Chemistry from the University of Detroit-Mercy in Detroit,
Michigan, and a Bachelor of Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor
