Associate Professor of Medicine and Surgery
Medical College of Wisconsin
Milwaukee, WI, United States
Njeri Wainaina is an associate professor of medicine and surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and the department of medicine’s vice chair for clinical quality. After fellowship, she rejoined MCW faculty with dual appointments in perioperative medicine and infectious disease adding her newly minted ID skills to her previous hospital medicine experience. Working as a consultant across disciplines positioned her well to step into leadership of the revamped antimicrobial stewardship efforts and she now serves enthusiastically as medical director for antimicrobial stewardship for the expanding Froedtert Health enterprise. She enjoys all of general ID in her clinical practice but is particularly interested in infections in patients with cystic fibrosis, non-tuberculous mycobacterial and surgical infections.
When not taking care of patients, advising on better antimicrobial use or mentoring learners and junior faculty, she can be found in at her local gym’s Zumba class or vigorously cheering her daughter’s volleyball team on.
