Seema Jain, MD, FIDSA is the Deputy Health Officer for Public Health at the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH). As a medical epidemiologist and clinical infectious diseases physician, Dr. Jain has worked extensively in domestic and international public health, on a myriad of diseases including COVID-19, influenza and pneumonia, foodborne and waterborne infections, and other emerging infections. Dr. Jain completed an internal medicine residency at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), the Epidemic Intelligence Service Fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and an infectious diseases fellowship at Emory University. She remains clinically active as an Attending Physician at UCSF. Prior to joining SFDPH in 2024, Dr. Jain served as a medical epidemiologist at the CDC from 2008-2016, where she was also stationed in New Delhi, India; and the California Department of Public Health from 2017-2024.
