Costi Sifri, MD, is the director of Hospital Epidemiology/Infection Prevention and Control at UVA Health and a Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia. He earned his medical degree from the University of Rochester and completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a clinical and research fellowship in infectious diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Dr. Sifri joined UVA's faculty in 2004, focusing on healthcare-associated pathogens, and founded the UVA Immunocompromised Infectious Disease Program in 2006. His research centers on the molecular epidemiology of multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria, microbial pathogenesis, host defense, and the prevention of healthcare-associated infections in compromised patients.
