Dr. Mangalea is a bioinformatician and microbial ecologist in the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Dr. Mangalea received his PhD at Colorado State University in Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. His previous research included characterizing the role of bacteriophages (phages) in health and disease, and exploring phages to combat antimicrobial resistance. His current research interests include metagenomic analyses of microbial communities to describe microbiomes, resistomes, and phageomes. Dr Mangalea is also interested in applications of pathogen reduction as a strategy to prevent infections with antimicroial-resistant healthcare-associated pathogens.
