Dr. Beckham received his MD and internal medicine residency training at Baylor College of Medicine. He then completed infectious disease clinical fellowship at University of Colorado School of Medicine followed by post-doctoral training in the fields of virology and neurovirology. Following training, Dr. Beckham stayed at the University of Colorado School of Medicine where he developed a research and clinical program with a focus on arthropod-borne virus (arbovirus) pathogenesis and neuroimmune responses to viral pathogens. During his time at the University of Colorado, he served as the ID Fellowship Program Director for 7 years and started a NeuroInfectious Disease Fellowship program in collaboration with the Department of Neurology that continues to provide advanced training in the clinical care and management of patients with complex neurological infections and neuroinflammatory diseases. In 2023, he was recruited to UT Southwestern Medical Center as the new Division Chief of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine and is an Investigator at the Peter O'Donnell Jr. Brain Institute. His laboratory continues to study the unique neuroimmune responses to viral pathogens in the central nervous system and continues research in the pathogenesis of emerging arbovirus infections.
