Tristan McPherson serves as the Medical Director for the Bureau of Communicable Diseases at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, overseeing teams dedicated to antimicrobial resistance, bioterrorism and high-consequence pathogens, outbreak preparedness and response, and clinical provider engagement. He received his medical degree at the University of Tennessee and completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center followed by Infectious Diseases fellowship at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. After fellowship, he joined the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) and was assigned to the Chicago Department of Public Health’s Communicable Disease Program. During EIS, his work focused on applied epidemiology, disease surveillance, infection prevention/control, and outbreak response related to multidrug-resistant pathogens, vaccine-preventable diseases, legionellosis, and COVID-19. He joined New York University's Division of Infectious Diseases and Immunology in 2020 and also supports learners pursuing careers in healthcare epidemiology and public health. He is a Fellow of IDSA, participating in the Public Health Advisory Group and the Grants for Emerging Researchers/Clinicians Mentorship (G.E.R.M.) selection committee.
