Ana Alastruey-Izquierdo is a Senior Scientist at the Mycology Reference Laboratory of Spain. She chaired the technical expert group for the development of the first Fungal priority Pathogens list by WHO. She serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Joint Program Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance (JPIAMR) and is the president of the Spanish Society for Mycology (AEM). Ana has led the Fungal Infection Study Group (EFISG) from ESCMID until May 2024 and has been the director of the Latin American programs for GAFFI until 2023. She is a fellow of ESCMID and ECMM.
Her main research interest includes public health mycology, antifungal susceptibility testing and surveillance and characterization on antifungal resistance. She has published more than 170 peer reviewed articles in scientific journals including several guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of fungal infections. Ana is an editor for Clinical Microbiology and Infection and Journal of Fungi.
She collaborates with international agencies like the ECDC and WHO, participating in risk assessments, developing guidelines and other projects connected with public health.
