Dr. Guadalupe Perez is a specialist in Pediatric Infectious Diseases with a master’s degree in Clinical Effectiveness from the University of Buenos Aires. She currently serves as Chief of the Unit of Hospital Epidemiology in the Department of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases at Hospital de Pediatría Garrahan in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In this role, she coordinates the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Hospital Garrahan.
Dr. Perez is an Attending Physician in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, where she is responsible for diagnosing and managing infectious diseases. She leads the implementation of shortened antibiotic treatments and early oral switches for inpatients.
She is part of a multidisciplinary team composed of microbiologists, clinical pharmacists, physicians, and nurses. Their main objective is to implement strategies to improve the use of diagnostic methods and antimicrobials in hospitalized children.
Dr. Perez is in charge of hospital epidemiological surveillance and designs strategies for the prevention and management of nosocomial infections.
She has conducted research on the epidemiology and clinical impact of viral and bacterial infections and antimicrobial resistance in pediatrics. She focuses on a multidisciplinary approach to severe infectious diseases to optimize antibiotic use.
Dr. Perez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Buenos Aires. She promotes training in pediatric infectious diseases and mentors the next generation of healthcare professionals. She actively participates in the Infectious Diseases Fellowship programs in Argentina.
