Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
Littleton, CO, United States
Allison Wheeler, MSPH, has 13 years of experience in the public health sector. While most of her time has focused on communicable diseases, her professional journey has included work in patient safety, emergency response and crisis management, and public health policy.
In her current position at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, she leads the Colorado statewide Wastewater Surveillance Program and serves as the Co-Director of the Colorado National Wastewater Surveillance System Center of Excellence. Her involvement in wastewater surveillance dates back to the program’s inception at the department in August 2020, when she was told she was going to dabble in something called wastewater surveillance. She is grateful for the unique career twist that has allowed her to contribute to this dynamic and expanding field, collaborating with professionals she might not have otherwise had the chance to work alongside.
