Dr. Guzman-Cottrill is a Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Oregon Health and Science University , joining the faculty in 2004. She served as Hospital Epidemiologist and Medical Director of Infection Prevention for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital from 2004-2015. In 2015 she established a private infection prevention consultancy, Infection Prevention Consulting of Oregon, LLC.
From 2016-2018, Dr. Guzman-Cottrill served as the Chair of the SHEA Outbreak Response Training Program, and was Co-Chair of the SHEA Public Health Task Force (2018-2023). She served as a Councilor on the SHEA Board of Trustees from 2019-2020.
Currently, Dr. Guzman-Cottrill serves as the Curriculum Director of the CDC-funded IDSA/SHEA/PIDS LEAP Fellowship program, which trains early-career infectious disease physicians how to effectively partner with public health partners in HAI/AR initiatives.
In 2019, Dr. Guzman-Cottrill was appointed to the CDC Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC). She was an expert writing panel member for the IDSA Infection Prevention Guideline for healthcare facilities managing patients with COVID-19. In 2020, Dr. Guzman-Cottrill served as a Senior Health Advisor on the Oregon State Public Health COVID-19 Response and Recovery Unit.
