Dr. Jim Dunn is currently the Director of the Medical Microbiology and Virology Laboratories at Texas Children's Hospital and Professor of Pathology and Immunology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He completed his Ph.D. in Pathology and Microbiology at the Nebraska Medical Center and did his post-doctoral fellowship in Medical and Public Health Microbiology at the University of Utah and ARUP Laboratories. He is board certified by the American Board of Medical Microbiology and is an active member of several national and regional microbiology organizations. Dr. Dunn’s research interests include the development and implementation of clinical molecular diagnostic assays for viral and bacterial infectious diseases. He has largely focused on testing for clinical syndromes involving the respiratory tract, central nervous system, and gastrointestinal tract. He has assessed the utility of rapid diagnosis of infection for these conditions and their impact on patient management, infection control practices, and healthcare utilization.
