Jessica A. Altamirano MD, FIDSA is an infectious disease physician who works providing patient care and conducting clinical research at CAN Community Health. She received her medical degree from the Universidad Católica Santiago de Guayaquil in Guayaquil, Ecuador. After graduating from medical school, she worked for a year as a House Physician in the Clinical Immunology/HIV department at Jackson Memorial Hospital and received the award of Fellow of the Year. She completed her medical internship and residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami and followed her passion by pursuing an Infectious Disease Fellowship here as well. After completing her training, she worked in private practice for a few years before joining CAN Community Health where she is currently the Medical Director for the Miami Gardens, Cape Coral and North Port clinics. Dr. Altamirano also completed a fellowship at the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine. She works primarily with priority groups to improve the health outcomes of those living with HIV and to prevent new cases of HIV in those at risk. She is also involved in Clinical Research as a Principal Investigator and Sub-Investigator for different HIV treatment and prevention clinical trials. Her areas of interest include HIV, PrEP, Hepatitis C and Patient Engagement.
