Dr. Olivia McGovern is an Epidemiologist in the International Infection Control Program (IICP) at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The current focus of her work in IICP is antimicrobial stewardship and prevention of antimicrobial resistance.
Before this, she completed the Epidemic Intelligence Service Fellowship in the National Centers for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the U.S. CDC, where the focus of her work was prevention of bacterial respiratory diseases such as Legionnaires’ disease and pneumococcal pneumonia. During that time, she built on her decade of experience conducting scientific research, and gained experience in emergency response, outbreak investigation, and infectious disease surveillance. She earned a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology and a Masters in Hospital and Molecular Epidemiology from the University of Michigan.
