I am a medical doctor and an infectious and tropical diseases specialist from Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH). I hold a Master's in Public Health from the Universidad Nacional de la Amazonia Peruana (2005) and another Master's in Public Health from the University of Washington, Seattle, USA (2007). I am currently pursuing my doctoral degree in medicine at UPCH. I am an associate professor of infectious and tropical diseases at the Universidad Nacional de la Amazonia. From 2009 to 2013, I served as the Director of Hospital Regional de Loreto in Iquitos, the most significant and complex hospital in the Loreto region. I have extensive experience as a large-project investigator in many clinical trials, focusing on helminth infection, malnutrition in children, malaria, zika, and HIV. Over the past 20 years, I have led the Asociacion Civil Selva Amazonica (ACSA) CRS, overseeing several clinical trials of HIV prevention and HIV vaccines sponsored by NIH/NIAID, many of which were conducted under IND. I have also actively participated in COVID-19 vaccine and treatment studies sponsored by Janssen, NIH/NIAID, and the CoVPN network. Additionally, I am a member of the Malaria and Dengue Expert Committee of the Ministry of Health of Peru.
