Simran Malik is a fifth-year PhD candidate from West Bengal, India. She is enrolled in a collaborative programme between the School of Medical Science and Technology, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and Tata Medical Center Kolkata. She is specializing in Medical Microbiology. Her research primarily focuses on Infection Control, with a particular interest in Antimicrobial Resistance and Pneumonia.
Simran holds a Masters of Science (MSc) in Molecular Medical Microbiology from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, where she developed a strong foundation in microbiology diagnostics, molecular diagnostics, good clinical practices, and a keen interest in clinical research. Her current research focusses on estimating the regional prevalence of antimicrobial resistance and elucidating pneumonia in cancer patients in east India in an effort to build evidence for these two key areas in infection control and guide policies specific to the region and lower-middle income settings.
During her PhD journey, Simran has published one peer-reviewed articles in Human Vaccines and Immunotherapeutics, and with several others under preparation or peer-review. She has previously presented her work at the Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists Conference Microcon (46th edition in November 2023).
In addition to her research, Simran is actively involved in teaching MSc students and the fulfillment of her role as her department's Women's Respresentative, reflecting a commitment to both academic excellence and community engagement.
