Dr. Julia Haston is a medical epidemiologist in the Waterborne Disease Prevention Branch at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Public Health Service. She is a board-certified physician in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases with a Master’s degree in clinical research. In her current role, Dr. Haston’s work primarily focuses on free-living amebae and giardiasis, and she oversees the CDC Free-Living Amebae Clinical Consultation Service.
Dr. Haston studied biological sciences and psychology at Clemson University where she received a Bachelor of Science degree, and she earned a medical degree from East Tennessee State University. She completed her pediatrics residency at the Medical University of South Carolina including an additional year as Chief Resident. She completed her pediatric infectious diseases fellowship at Emory University where she also earned a Master of Science degree in clinical research. After her medical training, LCDR Haston completed the Epidemic Intelligence Service fellowship at CDC in the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases. She joined USPHS in 2020 when she began her public health career at CDC.
