Research Student Assistant
Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago
My name is Mario Landa, and I am a Research Student Assistant at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, affiliated with the Division of Infectious Diseases and the Smith Child Health Outcomes, Research and Evaluation Center. As an undergraduate, I am dedicated to enhancing my research abilities and utilizing them in various disciplines.
Currently, I work with Dr. William Muller on projects involving novel diagnostics for patients at risk for fungal infections and on risk factors for bloodstream infections in pediatric solid organ transplant recipients. Additionally, I'm contributing to pediatric health research with Dr. Michelle Macy, centering on car passenger safety and analyzing the TCBD clinical trial data. TCBD is a clinical trial of an eHealth and motivational interviewing-based intervention to promote safe child passenger behaviors.
I am driven to pursue a combined MD/PhD degree, concentrating on the mechanisms of action and potential alternatives to antibiotics. My research interests are geared towards exploring bacteriophages and interspecific competition as innovative alternatives in the field.
