My name is Sang Jo Hwang, DO and I am a 2nd year ID fellow at UCSF Fresno. I moved to the US from South Korea when I was 3 years old and have lived all around the country throughout my life due to my father's ever changing jobs. My brother and I are products of my parent's daily hard work and sacrifice - through thick and thin, and many challenging years. They have worked tirelessly to afford us as many opportunities as they could, but more importantly they have taught me to be a driven, disciplined and compassionate individual that would be capable of creating my own opportunities. I have used these principles to guide my pursuit of success both in and out of medicine. Outside of medicine I have been passionate about sports from a young age. In high school I was the captain of the wrestling team, and finished my senior year as the PAC7 regional champion in the 141lb weight class. After high school and until now, I have turned my extracurricular focus towards bodybuilding. I like the short and long term challenges that come with breaking through plateus and it gives me a never ending supply of goals to work toward, which I think is crucial for a healthy mind. I am grateful to have been selected to present at IDWeek 2024, and will do my best to contribute to the advancement of medicine in the field of Infectious Disease.
