Jose A. Rodrigues, D.O., Ph.D., is a first-year pediatrics resident at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, Columbia University Irving Medical Center, within the pediatrician-scientist training and development program. Jose is an alum of the DO-PhD program at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics under the direction of Dr. Shannon D. Manning; his dissertation is titled "Molecular Epidemiology, pangenomic diversity, and comparative genomics of [i]Campylobacter jejuni[i]." He also studied the population structure of bacterial pathogens ([i]Enterobacter[i] and [i[Salmonella[i]) using large genomic datasets in collaboration with the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Wadsworth Center of the New York State Department of Health. Jose supplemented his graduate education with additional training and experiences in public health, acquiring a certificate in Epidemiology from the University of Michigan, completing CDC's Epidemiology Elective Program with the Global Immunization Division, and completing a clinical elective in Tropical Medicine in Blantyre, Malawi. Jose hopes to use his training to help treat, mitigate, and prevent pathogens in vulnerable populations, such as children.
