Elise Martin, MD, MS is the Medical Director of Infection Prevention at VA Pittsburgh Health System and an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Martin attended Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed internship and residency in Internal Medicine at UCLA Health. She completed Infectious Diseases fellowship at UCLA where she also received a Masters in Clinical Research. Dr. Martin is actively involved in multiple quality improvement projects to reduce healthcare associated infections and has published multiple research studies on contact precautions for MRSA and VRE. Dr. Martin is very interested in how we use personal protective equipment and isolation to decrease the spread of infections, while trying to maintain high quality patient care. She is also very interested in diagnostic stewardship and is actively working on projects to improve testing stewardship in her facility to reduce healthcare associated infections and reduce unnecessary antibiotics.
