Dr Katherine Henderson (PhD) is the lead epidemiologist for the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and antimicrobial usage (AMU) team, that forms part of the Healthcare-associated infections, Fungal, AMR, AMU and Sepsis Division at UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). She has a postgraduate background in Control of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), and a PhD in Epidemiology from University College London (UCL).
Her work has primarily focused on the surveillance of AMR across a range of bacterial organisms, that forms part of the core surveillance work underpinning the new UK AMR National Action Plan (NAP) 2024-2029 targets and deliverables. She has two particular topics of interest focusing on paediatric bacteraemia in England and carbapenemase-producing organisms (CPOs), the latter of which she has played a driving role in the enhancement of the national surveillance of CPO notifications and chairs the UKHSA CPO oversight group. She also has experience with the surveillance of zoonotic infections and was heavily involved in the international surveillance and epidemiology of the COVID-19 response.
