Alistair Thorpe, PhD, is a Research Assistant Professor in the University of Utah Intermountain Health Department of Population Health Sciences at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine. As a behavioral scientist in population health, Dr. Thorpe investigates the psychological barriers (e.g., cognitive biases) that can make it hard for people to make health-related decisions and examines why certain communication and educational strategies fall short in supporting patients and clinicians. Using this knowledge, he develops and tests strategies to make health information more meaningful and memorable. While Dr. Thorpe's primary focus is on reducing antibiotic overuse, he also applies his expertise across various medical contexts.
