Ms. Smith-Jeffcoat started her public health career at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2010, while completing her Master in Public Health, working in global drug-resistant tuberculosis where she supported and eventually led operational research studies and surveillance system evaluations, and provided technical assistance to many different countries around the world. In February 2020, after a trip to China was canceled, she started supporting CDC's COVID-19 Emergency Response where she provided data management and analysis support for the first 14 COVID-19 cases in the United States and their close contacts. She joined what is now the Coronavirus and Other Respiratory Viruses Division of CDC in November 2020 where she leads several SARS-CoV-2 and RSV studies and supports respiratory virus outbreak investigations.
