Dr. Fernando Pasteran graduated with honors, obtaining his college degree in Biochemistry from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, School of Pharmacy and Biochemistry. He pursued further specialization in Clinical Microbiology through a residency at the Hospital General de Agudos “Juan A Fernandez” in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and earned a Certificate of Add Qualification in Biochemistry and Microbiology.
Currently serving as the Principal Researcher at the National Reference Laboratory for Antimicrobial Resistance, located at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases ANLIS ‘Dr. Carlos G. Malbrán’ under the Ministry of Health, Argentina, Dr. Pasteran is also a consultant and researcher for the Latin America Regional Reference Laboratory for Antimicrobial Resistance, supported by the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization. Additionally, he plays a crucial role as a co-author and active member of the National Core of the Argentina National Plan of Action for Antimicrobial Resistance.
Dr. Pasteran's research is dedicated to antimicrobial resistance to antibiotics, with a focus on epidemiology, surveillance, antimicrobial susceptibility, the genetic background of antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative pathogens, and the development of innovative strategies for the rapid detection of infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria. His expertise extends to extensive postgraduate courses in clinical microbiology and epidemiology, and he actively contributes as a teacher in courses and conferences within his specialty.
In his prolific career, Dr. Pasteran has presented numerous abstracts at both national and international conferences, and he is the author of several papers published in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters, showcasing his significant contributions to the field.
