Matthew Penney is an MSc/MD student at the University of Calgary, where he combines his strong background in environmental science with health sciences. His current research focuses on wastewater-based surveillance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), an innovative approach to monitoring and addressing public health threats. By leveraging his expertise in both environmental and medical sciences, Matt is contributing to the development of new methodologies for tracking and mitigating the spread of AMR in communities. Their work holds promise for advancing our understanding of AMR dynamics and informing effective public health interventions. Matt is excited to wrap up his graduate degree and apply his knowledge of infectious diseases & AMR to the clinical side of his joint MD-MSc degree program.
