I'm Vaishnavi Velmani, currently pursuing my Pharm.D 5th year at C.L. Baid Metha College of Pharmacy, affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University. Growing up in a middle-class family and attending a matriculation school, I developed a passion for serving in the healthcare sector. This passion led me to join the Doctor of Pharmacy program in 2019.
During my studies, I became deeply interested in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, particularly in understanding how microorganisms develop resistance. This interest motivated me to initiate research in the field, and I am now working on five research projects related to Infectious Diseases.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I serve as the organizational advisor for a group dedicated to Pharm.D students and actively volunteer and participate in several organizations to enhance my learning. I have presented research papers at national conferences like CIDSCON and ID CONGRESS and co-authored a paper for the international conference ECCMID-2024.
Staying updated with IDSA guidelines through mobile applications has been crucial in steering my career. I aim to contribute to my community and the global healthcare landscape by developing antimicrobial stewardship programs in small clinics, conducting future research in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology, improving hospital infection control measures, and advocating for rational therapy to curb the development of resistance.
With these efforts, I hope to play a role in reducing the global threat posed by antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
